Composition

According to Ayurveda, its properties are described in the following shloka: 'नारिकेरफलं शीतं दुर्जरं वस्तिशोधनम् | विष्टम्भि बृंहणं बल्यं वातपित्तास्रदाहनुत् ||' Coconut tends to give moisture to the skin and helps in removing flaky skin. Its antibacterial properties prevent the growth of unwanted bacteria and remove dead skin, thereby giving a fresh and clear glow. Coconut contains high content of monolaurin and lauric acid, which helps to kill bacteria, viruses, and fungi, keeping infections at bay. It is full of nutrients like calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, vitamin C etc. Coconut oil manages skin problems like dryness, itchiness, scars etc., as it is rich in vitamin E and has antimicrobial, antioxidant, as well as anti-inflammatory properties. It removes dryness and helps in the quick healing of scaly patches, controls excessive itching, promotes the healing process, and helps in skin regeneration due to its 'Snigdha' (oily), 'Ropan' (healing), and 'Rasayana' (rejuvenating) properties.

Eucalyptus is most famous for its anti-inflammatory properties, which reduce redness and other inflammatory conditions. Eucalyptus oil helps in the quick healing of wounds, decreases swelling and restores the normal texture of the skin due to its "Ropan (healing) properties." The major constituents of Eucalyptus leaves' essential oils are 1,8-cineol (49.07 to 83.59%) and α-pinene (1.27 to 26.35%). Its "antibacterial properties'' also protect the skin from infections. It has a cooling effect on the skin, reducing pain and inflammation.

Turmeric is known to have various medicinal properties. The "Curcumin" found in turmeric can help wounds heal by decreasing inflammation and oxidation. It also reduces the body's response to cutaneous wounds. Turmeric contains antioxidants, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory components. It is also used as a medicine in providing relief from pain due to the presence of curcumin.

Olive oil contains a substance known as "Oleocanthal," which inhibits the activity of pain mediators, reducing pain and inflammation in the body. It also contains polyphenols, offering strong antioxidant properties, as well as vitamins A, D, E, and K, which protect the skin from harmful ultraviolet radiation and keep the skin moisturized. It is used to reduce pain, skin rash, dryness, and inflammation due to its anti-inflammatory property.

It has "anti-inflammatory, anti-fungal, antibacterial, and antiseptic properties," which promote healing for minor cuts, scrapes, and burns. It is also hypoallergenic and packed with antioxidants, helping reduce acne breakouts and inflammation. Its effective healing properties are used to treat wound healing, dry, tender, and sensitive skin. Its soothing, refreshing, and purifying effects help heal and cleanse sensitive skin without irritating any existing conditions. The antioxidants present in it aid in wound contraction and closure, as well as in the formation of collagen and new skin cells. It reduces inflammation and pain at the wound site and also decreases the risk of further infection due to its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. This promotes early healing of the wound and also reduces itchiness and redness, providing a soothing effect to the skin.

Pudina has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties that help treat wounds on the skin. Pudina contains a high amount of salicylic acid, which acts as an anti-acne agent and also serves as an effective skin cleanser. It is rich in phosphorus, calcium, and vitamins like C, D, E, and A, as well as volatile oil, which is beneficial for managing skin problems such as sores and itching. Pudina has antimicrobial and antioxidant properties that inhibit the growth of bacteria and prevent skin problems.

The powerful anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal properties of Mustard oil help in curing infections, skin rashes and allergies. It prevents dryness and itching of the skin and increases blood circulation. Mustard oil contains about 60% monounsaturated fatty acids (42% erucic acid and 12% oleic acid). It also has about 21% polyunsaturated fats (6% of the omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid and 15% of the omega-6 linoleic acid) and approximately 12% saturated fats. Its anti-inflammatory properties are attributed to the presence of selenium, a mineral known to reduce pain and swelling.

A substance known as "Azadirachtin," present in Neem leaves, lowers the risk of parasitic worms due to its antihelminthic property. It suppresses the activity of parasites and helps in their removal from the body. Neem also has good antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that help prevent cell damage. It is an excellent wound healer, aiding the body in rapidly creating collagen fibres to close the wound.

Aloe vera has anti-inflammatory properties that are effective in wound healing. The enzymes present in aloe vera, namely amylase, bradykinase, aliiase, alkaline phosphatase, peroxidase, catalase, cellulose, lipase and carboxypeptidase, form an antibacterial coating against bacteria. The anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties of aloe vera reduce pain, skin rashes, dryness, roughness and the risk of infections at the site of the wound.

The Ayurvedic properties of Kapoor are explained in the following shloka: “कर्पूरः शीतलो वृष्यश्चक्षुष्यो लेखनो लघुः | सुरभिर्मधुरस्तिक्तः कफपित्तविषापहः” || Camphor has a wide variety of topical uses due to its antibacterial, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. Camphor acts as a counter-irritant as it first produces a feeling of warmth by increasing blood flow and gives a soothing and cooling effect. It also helps reduce local area inflammation due to its healing nature. The Ayurvedic properties of Arand (Ricinus communis) are explained in the following shloka: "एरण्डयुग्मं मधुरमुष्णं गुरु विनाशयेत् |शूलशोथकटीबस्तिशिरःपीडोदरज्वरान्| ब्रध्नश्वासकफानाहकासकुष्ठाममारुतान्” || Castor oil has anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce swelling and puffiness. It also possesses antiviral and antimicrobial properties and is rich in Ricinoleic acid and monounsaturated fatty acids. Castor oil helps heal wounds by stimulating the growth of new tissue, reducing dryness, and preventing the buildup of dead skin cells.

Directions for Use

Take sufficient quantity of ointment & apply gently on the affected area. This ointment can be applied 1 to 3 times a day or as per the need or as per your physician’s directions. It is one of the best healing ointments for Chronic wounds along with other wounds also.
